Reverse the Effects of Aging on Your Vision
Cataract Surgery Huntsville
As people get older, natural age related changes start to occur in the natural crystalline lens of the eye (cataract formation), and vision starts to deteriorate. If you have difficulty seeing at night, distinguishing bright colors, and increasingly clouded vision, you may have a cataract. Using an advanced procedure called phacoemulsification, Dr. Lee will perform cataract surgery to remove the cloudy natural lens, and will insert an artificial intraocular lens implant which can significantly improve your vision.
An Experienced Cataract Surgeon You Can Trust
As one of Huntsville, Alabama’s leading eye surgeons, Dr. Lee has vast experience addressing a wide range of cataract cases. Many doctors in the area refer their patients to Dr. Lee because of his expertise, attention to detail, and compassion. Dr. Lee provides all of his patients with a through consultation, so he can optimize your cataract surgery and insure the best possible results.
About Phacoemulsification Cataract Surgery
The technique Dr. Lee most commonly uses to perform cataract surgery is phacoemulsification. During this short outpatient procedure, a small incision is made, the natural crystalline lens is removed and is replaced with an Intraocular Lens Implant (IOL). The procedure is virtually painless, but you will be given IV sedation to ease your anxiety.
To begin, your pupils will be dilated and topical anesthetic will be instilled to numb the eye. Then, a tiny incision is made, allowing Dr. Lee to insert a small probe which will both shatter the cataract into several tiny pieces and then vacuum them out all at the same time. Next, he will insert the IOL which will correct your nearsightedness or farsightedness. This phenomenal restorative procedure does not require stitches; in fact, the incision will heal all on its own over the next few days following surgery.
Eliminating Your Need for Glasses with Premium IOLs
Premium IOLs can significantly reduce your dependence on glasses, and in many cases can restore your ability to see at all distances…far, near, and in between! Dr. Lee offers several different premium lenses to choose from such as the Tecnis Multifocal lens, HQ, and the Alcon and AMO Toric lens. Once you discuss your visual needs and goals with Dr. Lee, he will determine which lens is best suited for you and your lifestyle.
Benefits and Results of Cataract Surgery
After a cataract diagnosis, Dr. Lee believes educating the patient is of the utmost importance. Although changing your eyeglass prescription may help you temporarily, cataract surgery is the best way to effectively treat the condition and improve your eyesight. The advantages of phacoemulsification cataract surgery are many:
- Dramatically improved vision
- Outpatient procedure with very little downtime
- No stitches
- Eliminate or decreased dependency on glasses or contact lenses
- High success rate
Immediately following surgery, you will be advised to “take it easy” and to use the prescribed eye drops as instructed. A time will be given to you to follow-up with Dr. Lee so that he can evaluate your progress. Your eye may be slightly tender or scratchy and you may experience a mild headache. Vision will continue to improve over the course of a few weeks/months.
