What Are The Advantages Of The Symfony IOL?
June 15th, 2020
When you prepare for cataract surgery, you will need to select an intraocular lens or IOL. This lens replaces the natural lens that is removed during cataract surgery.
The natural lens is where a cataract develops and why you can’t see with a cataract. Replacing the lens with an IOL allows you to see clearly once more.
There are actually quite a few kinds of IOLs to choose from. Each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Keep reading to learn more about IOLs and the Symfony IOL!
IOL Types
The standard IOL option is also the least expensive kind of IOL. Known as a monofocal IOL, this IOL allows you to see clearly at one set distance after surgery.
But if you need to change vision depth, then you will need to use glasses to do that. If you don’t mind wearing glasses after cataract surgery, this is a good option to consider.
Premium IOLs can allow you to see clearly without glasses. Even if you have had to wear glasses your entire life, premium IOLs can change that! If your budget can handle a premium IOL, it is definitely worth considering.
The first kind of premium IOL is the multifocal IOL. This works by having different zones in the lens itself. These zones focus light differently, depending on how you look through the lens.
Accommodative IOLs work by moving and adjusting in your eye, closer to how your natural lens acts. Toric IOLs are custom fit to treat patients with astigmatism.
What Sets the Symfony IOL Apart
The Symfony IOL is the original premium IOL, FDA-approved before any other IOL with an extended depth of focus. Symfony IOLs are still considered to be a breakthrough technology.
They offer a wide range of vision with a lower risk of issues other premium IOLs may cause. This includes loss of contrast, halos appearing around fixed points of light, glare, and other vision aberrations that tend to occur at night.
The Symfony IOL is not for everybody. While most premium IOLs excel at giving you a wide range of vision, Symfony is particularly strong at the intermediate to far distance. It’s important to note that other multifocal IOLs can outclass it in closer ranges.
Take Your Lifestyle Into Account When Choosing An IOL
Take your lifestyle into consideration when choosing an IOL. If you like to do things outdoors like hunting, fishing, or hiking, the Symfony IOL can give you better eyesight than you’ve ever had.
If you are more partial to reading, watching TV, or engaging in tasks that need attention to detail, you may be better off with another multifocal option. It’s important to take these things into consideration before you make a choice about an IOL.
