Post-LASIK Eye Care
October 27th, 2016
When doctors are asked for the best corrective solution for refractive errors, they only have one procedure in mind and that is LASIK. LASIK is efficient, fast, and safe, and our LASIK surgeons are experts in this field. One of the key features of LASIK is the fast recovery period patients experience after the procedure. As fast as the recovery period is, your eyes still need some care to ensure proper healing and healthy eyes for a lifetime.
Here are few things you need to know to ensure optimal results:
Rest your Eyes
Gaining the crisp, clear eyesight should excite you to bits, and you may want to use your vision in any way and anytime possible. While you are discovering the wonders of clear vision, you must make sure that you are resting your eyes for at least a day.
Wear Sunglasses
Your eyes need protection after surgery and even after the recovery period. Sunglasses are needed to protect your eyes from UV rays which can cause eye diseases such as cataracts. They also help with light sensitivity that is sometimes experienced during the LASIK recovery.
Eat a Healthy Diet
There are certain foods that enhance the quality of the eyesight. Foods rich in vitamin A, lutein, vitamin C, and omega-3 fatty acids can bring out the real potential of your vision and maintain the clear eyesight that LASIK has restored. These nutrients also cut your chances of developing eye diseases by quite a bit.
No Rubbing your Eyes
Avoid rubbing your eyes for a month or more as this could irritate and damage the eyes. LASIK recovery may be fast, but protecting your eyes should continue until your doctor tells you it is safe to engage in activities such as rubbing your eyes or contact sports.
Use your Medications as Directed
After LASIK surgery, your LASIK physician will prescribe eye drops and medications to decrease any discomfort such as tearing and foreign body sensation. These medications also help to lower your risk of infection and complication after surgery.
Go to your Follow-up Appointments!
During your LASIK recovery, your LASIK physician will schedule a post-surgery visit to ensure you are healing correctly. You will be asked to come back for these regular follow-up appointments. It is important to let your doctor know about anything concerning the healing process or your vision during this time. If you notice any symptoms that aren’t going away, now is the time to say so.
Regulate the Use of Devices
Computers and other screens can put a strain on the eyes, which can affect vision and lead to headaches. Limit your use of screens and your eyes will thank you.
